Jon Irwin, CPB
Jon first earned his CMA designation (Certified Management Accountant in Ontario) back in 2004 as one of the Society’s top achievers. After spending some time overseas during his post-secondary education, (Jon attended the University of Manchester), he worked as a Junior Accountant before eventually obtaining his CMA Designation. In 2021, Jon upgraded his skills further, eventually earning his CPB designation, (Certified Professional Bookkeeper).
In April 2006, Jon was hired by The Hospital for Sick Children to temporarily cover for a Finance Supervisor’s maternity leave. With the realization that his work was finally making a difference, Jon’s passion quickly ignited, and he was promoted to a Controller position within a few short months. Since his time with SickKids, Jon has had the pleasure of working with many terrific Accountants over the years, and he now takes great pleasure in referring to some of these talented individuals as his fellow teammates of Healthcare Accounting.
In his spare time, Jon is either cheering on the Montreal Canadiens, (sorry Leafs Nation), or spending time with his wife (Laura), and their Golden Retriever, (Hailey). Jon continues to pursue the sport of running as his primary hobby, although the marathon distance continues to be a significant challenge for him. Not only is running a terrific way to end the day, Jon believes that setting aside a small amount of time each day to unwind and focus on one’s own health and wellness is a key element in a balanced lifestyle that too many people overlook.
